Stevenage Borough Council are supporting a Dementia Friends Stevenage Event aimed at businesses and organisations in the town on 19 March between 1.30pm and 6.30pm at the Broadhall Suite, Stevenage Football Club.

As part of ongoing work to maintain Stevenage as a Dementia Friendly Town, the council are encouraging more local businesses and organisations to complete Dementia Friends training and progress towards Dementia Friendly Accreditation.

The event will include two Dementia Friends sessions delivered by Alzheimer’s Society and Memory Support Hertfordshire. Becoming a Dementia Friend increases understanding of dementia and empowers people to make small but meaningful differences in their communities. Many people living with dementia experience isolation due to misunderstanding of the condition. Dementia Friends help challenge this by promoting awareness and inclusive everyday actions that support independence and connection. Further information is available at dementiafriends.org.uk/about-dementia-friends .

There will also be a session from Memory Support Hertfordshire explaining how businesses and organisations can achieve Dementia Friendly Accreditation. The framework supports organisations to reflect on current practice and take practical steps towards becoming more inclusive. Improvements made for people living with dementia often benefit customers, staff, and the wider community. Further information is available at Dementia Friendly Hertfordshire – Memory Support Hertfordshire .

The event and training are completely free to attend. A marketplace of local support services will also be available for anyone seeking advice or information.
